Mailing Read,
Show Image, Validate, Store
This application uses a Cognex camera and our easy to use software to read bar codes or text in a
document handling operation. We read the bar code, display the image, log the data, store the image,
send data string to the necessary devices, and divert the document via discrete I/O if there is a problem.
Problem:
Mail and document processors need more competive and flexible solutions to read the OCR or bar code on their customers mail.
Solution:
This system takes a signal from the photoeye
turns on a light system for the duration of the shutter time Our software retrieves the image and data instantly. The image is stored, if desired, and displayed to the screen to let the operator know how the processis working. In the event there is a bad read, our program tells the
camera to fire an output signal to divert the document. The retrieved image is also stored for analysis and problem solving. The captured image is displayed on the screen and the image is stored.. We can connect directly to the E-Stop
on the machine if desired. No read images are captured and stored for analysis.
Date and time stamps are added to the log file.

Hardware:
We use the Cognex Insight Micro
camera series because of its its small size, fast decoding speed, Power over ethernet, large field of view and depth of
field, and ability to read the postal codes or OCR for future applications.
This camera has integrated Ethernet and the trigger is instantaneous. The break out module with the DIN rail mount
makes discrete I/O much easier to integrate. An LED ring light helps create a
consistent environment in the read area.
