Part Inspection
This application uses a DVT
camera and our Windows based software to inspect parts in an assembly process. We inspect the part, compare the image to a known
database of good and bad images, and stop the process if there is a problem. If
there is no problem, then the operation keeps running. Fixturing is not as
critical because of the inspection algorithms of the DVT unit allow the image
to be located off of special features instead of a fixed spot. All devices can connect and run on your local
network infrastructure or we can create a dedicated network.
Problem:
It is very difficult to achieve zero defects in a labor
intensive assembly process with manual inspection. Over the long run 100% inspection proves to
be only about 80% effective. Low volume
labor intensive operations are difficult to justify automation solutions. This problem points toward a relatively
inexpensive vision inspection system.
Solution:
Implement an inspection system using the DVT 515 camera
series. Using the defect history, images
are recorded of known rejects and stored in the camera. Known good images are also stored. An operator PC interface lets the operator
know the status of the part. An operator interface informs the operator what is
wrong with the reject part and allows him to rework and inspect again. Multiple parts programs can be stored or
loaded into the camera.
Hardware:

We use the DVT 515 camera series because of their decoding
speed, large field of view and depth of field, and inspection tools. This camera has integrated Ethernet and the
trigger is instantaneous. The break out
module with the DIN rail mount makes discrete I/O much easier to integrate.
