This Work In Process (WIP)
inventory solution helps you keep track of your inventory in a wireless real
time environment. As parts arrive at the
work station, the Operation bar code is scanned as well as the product tracking
bar code. This updates the inventory
tracking database as to the location of that batch of product. It also performs
a time stamp so the Production Manager can track how long this batch is at a
particular operation. This information
can help him with line balancing, man power scheduling, and other throughput
details that are critical in today’s competitive environment.
Switch to Batch Mode:
This application has the ability to switch to batch mode if
the network goes down or the operator is in an area where there is no wireless
coverage. It puts the data into a batch file and then uploads it in the order
received when the network connection is restored. This keeps production moving.
Wireless Upgrades:
This application also has the ability to receive updates to
the client software over the wireless network.
This makes updates very painless because you don’t have to go track down
all your mobile devices and put then in a cradle and load the software one at a
time. Then, you still have to redistribute the devices back to the users.
Multiple Apps on 1
device:
The flexibility of a Windows based mobile device makes
switching back to the legacy inventory very painless.

field. This drop down is populated from
a table on your database so changes can be made quickly as your methods change.
Hardware:
For this application we used the Symbol MC9000 Series mobile terminal. This device is very rugged, can read bar
codes from 2 to 30 feet and has a long life battery.
